Caterina Giglio was born in Rome in 1970. Her artistic vitality is multifaceted: she worked for eleven years in the theatre as an actress, costume designer and set designer. At the same time, she dedicated herself to the theme of creative recycling, transforming vintage objects into unique works of art. Since 2016, she has focused mainly on painting and drawing and in 2024, a retrospective of her work was held at Rome’s prestigious Palazzo Velli.
Giglio’s incredibly dense and detailed pen-and-ink drawings and mixed media artworks are composed of myriads of fairytale figures – human and non-human. Her works possess a frenetic, high-energy and obsessive quality, combined with a powerful, dreamlike aura that harks back to the fantastical world of Victorian illustrator Aubrey Beardsley.
