DALILA BELATO
Dalila Belato was born in 1982 in Palermo, Sicily. Her artistic formation was dedicated to sculpture, modelling and stone restoration studies and her distinctive works have been widely exhibited in Italy. In 2015, she won first prize in the sculpture category at the exhibition Expo Arte Italiana curated by well-known Italian art critic Vittoria Sgarbi.
Belato defies traditions of sculptural reliefs, creating disconcerting yet comical faces using different techniques and mixed materials. Her fascination with the human anatomy is clear in these detailed, realistic faces whose caricature-like expressions both shock and mesmerise. In her latest works, Belato adds sculpted insects to her human forms, inviting us to reflect on the process of metamorphosis and the interconnectivity of humanity and the natural world.
