Von Buren Contemporary presents
CHILDREN’S CORNER
featuring the works of
Fantini
Guido Morelli
Saro Puma
Von Buren Contemporary is delighted to present Children’s Corner, its colourful Christmas show featuring an all-male trio of gallery artists: Fantini, Guido Morelli and Saro Puma.
The exhibition’s title underscores the unaffected simplicity of execution and vision that unites the work of these three Italians, resulting in creations that blend poetic inspiration with refreshing, childlike innocence.
This dynamic and joyful show combines bright colours, enchanted landscapes and stylized figures, turning the gallery into a vibrant and nostalgic space and an escape from the adult world and its attendant problems.
With no accurate representations of lines, shape, space or colour, and their simplified representation of reality, the apparent lightness of these artists’ work conceals an intimate depth, capable of looking beyond the ordinary, through the filter of youthful wonder.
Born in Rome in 1960, popular gallery artist Fantini has had a long and varied career in the arts, working as a professional ballet dancer, actor and photographer as well as painter and sculptor. He spent 14 years travelling and living outside Italy, and his travels have had a strong influence on his creativity, contributing to an immediate, primitivist quality that speaks directly to the viewer. His trademark featureless, red-haired figures have won him a devoted following in Italy and abroad.
Guido Morelli was born in La Spezia in 1967 and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. Morelli’s refined paintings depict synthetic, vibrantly coloured landscapes. He does not seek to represent real places – his painting is “mental,” thus privileging the dimensions of memory and imagination. The artist focuses on a psychological language of painting, distancing himself from purely descriptive aspects and instead aiming for a powerful fusion of colour and luminosity.
Saro Puma was born in Sicily in 1963 and lives in Turin. He has worked for many years in the field of psychiatry, running painting workshops, and has exhibited widely in Italy and abroad. A childlike naivety pervades Puma’s canvases and drawings. His poetic, whimsical creations, many of which capture moments of enigmatic solitude, resonate with viewers for their delicate, melancholic air and playful musings and have led to a loyal support base for the artist in the world of private collecting.
