Von Buren Contemporary presents
Crossover
solo exhibition of
FANTINI
the exhibition will remain on show until April 11
Von Buren Contemporary is delighted to present CROSSOVER, the new solo show of gallery artist Fantini.
Fantasy and surprise remain key elements in Fantini’s latest exhibition, which is aptly entitled Crossover, as the artist explores his subjects’ transition from infancy to adulthood. His trademark figures with their featureless faces, red hair and simplified areas of colour seemed poised between different tendencies, some boasting an androgynous look and an implicit fluidity.
The animal world is also involved in Fantini’s ‘crossover’, with incursions into his pictures of zebras, cheetahs and other wild creatures; while the term is fitting on a personal level as the artist crosses over into new genres that bring to mind pop art and manga and experiments with new techniques and materials.
Born in Rome in 1960, Fantini has had a long and varied career in the arts, working as a professional ballet dancer, actor and photographer as well as painter and sculptor. He spent 14 years travelling and living outside Italy, a period that included long sojourns in Asia and in particular Tibet, before returning to Rome in 2000.
Fantini’s travels have had a strong influence on his creativity, contributing to an immediate, primitivist quality in his work that speaks directly to the viewer and has won him a large following in Italy and abroad.
