Collage artist Simona Gasperini graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome where she specialised in Sculpture. She lives and works in Rome.
Gasperini’s dreamy and surreal collages are intensely poetic, inspired by the painstaking exploration of themes related to time, memory and the past. She combines painting, photography, drawing and writing in the creation of her captivating artworks, incorporating handcut images and fragments of text gleaned from antique books and magazines, old photo albums and archives of forgotten papers. The resulting canvases, filled with ethereal, immobile and mystical figures, communicate a desire for slowness and reflection in an era of visual overload. Blue backdrops are a constant, accentuating the dreamlike and immaterial aspect of her representations and their clear detachment from the earthly world.
