We are delighted to announce the newly opened exhibition of gallery artist Lucianella Cafagna at Rome museum Palazzo Merulana (Via Merulana 121, 00185 Rome).
Sponsored by Von Buren Contemporary amongst others, the exhibition is one of the many events being held across Italy to mark the centenary of the birth of Italian director and writer Pier Paolo Pasolini. The show is entitled “Lucciole” or “Fireflies”. In 1972, just months before he was murdered, Pasolini spoke of the disappearance of fireflies in one of his best-known articles.
In the hands of Cafagna, the term becomes a metaphor which she interprets in ways ranging from cinematic citations and poetic allusions to a disappearing world, to explicit references to the streetwalkers known in Italian as “lucciole”.
