Von Buren Contemporary is delighted to present Once upon a time…, a rich and varied Christmas gallery event featuring the work of six artists: Lucianella Cafagna, Maria Pilotto, Claire Piredda, Sofia Podestà, Saro Puma, Giulio Rigoni, Joe Scott and Christina Thwaites.
With its diversity of genres including painting, drawing, sculpture and photography and a large selection of Limited Edition Fine Art Prints, and also with many artworks priced under 1,000 euros, Once upon a time… aims to create a joyful, festive atmosphere and help visitors find their ideal Christmas gift!
Well-known gallery artist Lucianella Cafagna – who trained in the studio of Pierre Carron, a protégé of Balthus – is taking part with two stunning new paintings together with a fresh collection of exclusive signed and numbered Fine Art Prints showcasing some of her most popular artworks. 28-year-old Maria Pilotto, meanwhile, has created a series of small, vivid watercolours on paper, taking family celebrations as her theme. These rich and delicate artworks are inspired by the photographs of family and friends, and perfectly capture a fleeting moment that is at once exquisitely personal yet universal.
Sculptor Claire Piredda unveils a new line of irresistible painted terracotta sculptures. Born in Montreal, Canada, Piredda pulls and pinches life from her clay, creating expressive, meditative figures of young girls and women which remain hauntingly tender. Italian photographer Sofia Podestà instead plunges her audience into captivating, snowy landscapes inspired by German fairy tale Mother Holle by the Brothers Grimm.
The poetic drawings of Saro Puma capture moments of enigmatic solitude, heightened by the pastel shades typical of his pictorial production. The works of Giulio Rigoni are perfect for the season, transporting us into a fantastical dimension complete with labyrinths, towers and castles, all enhanced with gold leaf. Not to be overlooked are also his enchanting drawings inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
Gallery newcomer Joe Scott, who was born in England but has lived in Rome for many years, presents a series of remarkable small wax sculptures celebrating the main historical monuments of Rome with a surprising wealth of details, while Christina Thwaites beguiles viewers with a series of flower paintings and original interactive magnetic works which allow the viewer to ‘change the picture’.
