Inside out will remain on show until July 2, 2026
Von Buren Contemporary is delighted to present Inside Out, the duo exhibition of up-and-coming young artists Olmo Gasperini and Anastasia Norenko.
Inside Out not only showcases the new work of this exciting pair, but also puts the gallery’s long-standing talent scouting activities fully in the spotlight.
In this show, Gasperini’s silent, brooding interiors stand in contrast to Norenko’s vibrant, brightly-coloured landscapes. The neutral, melancholic tones of Gasperini’s empty rooms are set against the blazing, often startling hues of Norenko’s outdoor scenes in a fusion of two parallel worlds.
Gasperini focuses on the study of domestic environments and objects, with a wealth of seemingly ordinary details slowly built up to create a poetic and layered interpretation of everyday life. Norenko, on the other hand, paints outdoors in the open air, concentrating on the observation of her chosen landscape and combining the objectivity of the viewer’s gaze with her own personal reinterpretation.
A remarkable virtuosity characterises the technique of the two artists, who both place painting from life at the heart of their current research.
Olmo Gasperini, born in Rome in 1997, graduated with a degree in Painting from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan in 2024. His work has already been exhibited by top galleries in Milan and Bologna, as well as Von Buren Contemporary.
Gasperini’s paintings transport the viewer into a suspended space, where the atmosphere hovers between presence and absence. The interiors depicted – empty rooms, steeped in an atmosphere of anticipation and solitude – arise from a direct and spontaneous process, rooted in the observation of his immediate surroundings. Gasperini chooses to work from life, starting with the spaces he inhabits and crystallising a precise moment in time. The act of painting thus becomes a tool capable of activating a deeper and more intense perception of reality for the artist.
Anastasia Norenko was born in Ukraine in 1994 and graduated in 2024 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where she now lives and works. Despite her young age, she has taken part in a number of exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, including the group exhibition Chiamata alle arti (Call to the Arts) at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York.
Anastasia Norenko’s landscapes, painted direct from nature en plein air, redirect our attention to a centuries-old tradition. Her canvases resonate not only for the contemporary concern for our threatened habitat but also for the artist’s deliberate eschewal of modern digital or technological resources in a bid to remain as “natural” as possible.
Inside Out is a celebration not only of the imagination and creativity of these two gifted artists but also of gallery owner Michele von Büren’s ability to spot and nurture young talent – a capacity which is critical her gallery’s continued and growing success.
